Southern Highlands Regional Shooting Complex

The NSW Government is planning to start improvement work to the 50m and 500m ranges at the Southern Highlands Regional Shooting Complex starting in late 2017 and finishing by late 2018.

The project was originally approved in 2010 and $7.7 million in NSW Government funding has been committed for the 500m and 50m ranges and the existing 800m range which has been in use for 26 years.

The Office of Sport has managed the 800m range since October 2016 and will manage all the ranges when completed.

Modification 5 was approved on 31 July 2017 by the Department of Planning & Environment.

The Office of Sport has kept the same days and hours of operation, four days per week between 10am and 5pm to meet community concerns expressed during the public consultation. In addition, the number of special events that may be held at the Complex (if approved) stays at three per year.

When the new ranges are completed, there will be a full independent audit of all the noise and environmental controls each year, for the first three years of operation.

The Office of Sport will provide a hotline for noise complaints or feedback on any other impacts from the Complex on the Community.

The project also involves the transfer of more than 2,800 hectares of land to the State’s National Park and Reserve system under an offset package as shooting clubs merge and relinquish other parcels of land at their home ranges.

The Office of Sport will continue to consult with users, the local community and other stakeholders to ensure the complex remains compliant, safe and meets best practice.

The Office of Sport continues to work with Wingecarribee Shire Council to resolve any potential traffic impacts and will carry out a traffic management study one year after opening the new complex.
