Member Protection Information Officers (MPIO) have an important role to play at all levels of sport.

To become an MPIO and receive a Certificate of Recognition, participants must:

  1. Complete the online training course (free)
    • This must be completed PRIOR to you attending the workshop
    • Go to Play by the Rules to register and complete the online course
    • The course takes several hours, and covers topics such as MPIO role, the law, complaints management, child protection and ethics.
    • It’s essential you do the online training before coming to our workshop – as it forms the basis for all discussion and will ensure you get the most from the workshop session.
  2. Attend a face-to-face MPIO workshop - details below
  3. Register as a MPIO on the national database using both your online and workshop certification numbers.

What is an MPIO?

A Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) provides information about the rights, responsibilities and options available to an individual making a complaint in sport. They can also inform and advise sport administrators and complaint handlers in Member Protection Policy for specific sports. MPIOs are impartial and don’t mediate or investigate complaints. They may reside in a club, state association or national sports organisation and can also freelance.
