Volunteer Sporting Spirit Award – Western Region

Volunteers are the lifeblood of grassroots sport in country NSW.

Through the bi-annual Western Region Volunteer Sporting Spirit Award, local sporting clubs can recognise exceptional volunteers for:

  • Dedicating their time to the club, association or committee
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude while volunteering
  • Being a positive role model for other club members
  • Bringing expertise and knowledge to their volunteer role
  • Giving encouragement to others in the club, association or committee.

Eligibility criteria

The nominee must have been in the volunteer position they are being nominated for during the period between September 2016 to March 2017.

Nominees must reside within:

  • Central West - Local Government Areas include Bathurst Regional Council, Bland Shire Council, Blayney Shire Council, Cabonne Shire Council, Cowra Shire Council, Forbes Shire Council, Lachlan Shire Council, Lithgow City Council, Mid-Western Regional Council, Oberon Council, Orange City Council, Parkes Shire Council, Weddin Shire Council.
  • North West - Local Government Areas include Armidale Dumaresq Council, Glen Innes Severn Shire Council, Gunnedah Shire Council, Guyra Shire Council, Gwydir Shire Council, Inverell Shire Council, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Moree Plains Shire Council, Narrabri Shire Council, Tamworth Regional Council, Tenterfield Shire Council, Uralla Shire Council, Walcha Council.

Prizes

The winner for each area (Central West and North West) will be allocated $250, and the runner up $100, to spend on a sports development program that Sport and Recreation provides or endorses.

The winners may choose to use the prize as an individual or they may decide to share it across a number of people (e.g. members of a team or a board).

Nominate a volunteer

Entry rules

  1. Entries must be received by 4:30pm Friday 31 March 2017. No entries will be accepted after this time.
  2. Entries can be submitted:
    • Online at sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au/volunteeraward
    • Via your nearest Sport and Recreation office in the Western region
  3. Nominations will only be accepted for individuals (i.e. not a whole committee).
  4. No self-nominations will be accepted.
  5. Nominations that are submitted by family members must provide a second committee members contact details for verification.
  6. Multiple entries from one club or association will be accepted.
  7. Winners will be notified by phone and published on sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au
  8. The winner may be nominated for the 2018 Centre of Volunteering, NSW Volunteer of the Year Award OR the Sport NSW Community Sports Volunteer Awards.
  9. You may be contacted to provide further information if required.
  10. The additional club contact (you have provided) may be contacted to verify your nomination.
  11. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  12. The competition will be judged by an independent panel nominated by Sport and Recreation.
  13. The age of successful youth (category) nominees may be verified by a formal identification source (e.g. drivers
    licence, birth certificate, student card) during the judging process.
  14. Unsuccessful nominations will be held for the following years’ winter round. Nominators will be contacted to
    certify information is still accurate.
